Acumen – ability to understand and reason – judgment.

While studying in my early college years I was writing a paper which required the frequent use of the word judgement. When I received my paper back from my instructor, to my great disappointment, every single time I wrote “judgement”, it had the proverbial red check mark over every ‘e’.

In my opinion, the instructor could have had the discernment to make a note stating “the short answer is that ‘judgment’ is the prevailing (“dominant”) spelling.”

Most import and to the point, these scriptures will support my thinking about discernment.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

The Apostle Paul encouraging believers to develop a discerning spirit.

In Philippians 1:9-10 (NIV), Paul prays,

“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ.”

Here, discernment is linked to love, knowledge, and pursuing what is morally excellent. (From BibleStudyTools.com)

As you can see I never did forget to back space and delete the ‘e’ when writing. Indeed, I even type it correctly, automatically, but not without memories.

Galatians 5:22-23 NIV

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law
